Terms of Service
The ground rules for using Terminal Biographer — kept readable on purpose.
Last updated: April 2026
Agreement
By using Terminal Biographer (“the Service”), you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”). The Service is provided by Dangerous Media (“we”, “us”, “our”). If you don’t agree with these terms, please don’t use the Service.
These terms apply to the desktop application, mobile application, website, API, and any related services.
License Grant
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Terminal Biographer for personal and professional purposes, subject to these Terms.
- The open-source core is licensed under its repository license (see GitHub for details).
- Premium features require an active subscription when they become available.
- You may self-host the server component on your own infrastructure.
- You may not resell, redistribute, or white-label Terminal Biographer without written permission.
Your Account
Some features require creating an account. You are responsible for:
- Keeping your login credentials and encryption passphrase secure.
- All activity that occurs under your account.
- Notifying us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.
We cannot recover your data if you lose your encryption passphrase. This is an intentional security feature, not a limitation.
Data Ownership
You own your data. This is non-negotiable.
- All workflow data, summaries, and content you create through Terminal Biographer belongs to you.
- We do not claim any intellectual property rights over your content.
- You can export your data at any time in standard formats.
- If you delete your account, your cloud-synced data will be permanently removed within 30 days.
By using the share feature, you grant viewers permission to read the specific content you chose to share. You can revoke shared links at any time.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service to capture, store, or share content that violates applicable laws.
- Attempt to circumvent encryption, access other users’ data, or exploit vulnerabilities.
- Use automated tools to abuse the API beyond reasonable rate limits.
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation.
- Use the Service to generate spam, misleading content, or harass others.
We reserve the right to suspend accounts that violate these guidelines, with notice when possible.
Pricing & Payments
The free tier is free forever. When premium features launch:
- Pricing will be clearly displayed before you subscribe.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled.
- You can cancel at any time — your premium features remain active until the end of the billing period.
- We may change pricing with 30 days’ notice. Existing subscribers will be grandfathered at their current rate for at least one billing cycle.
Limitation of Liability
Terminal Biographer is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
- We do our best to keep the Service reliable, but we cannot guarantee 100% uptime or zero data loss.
- We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.
- Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $50, whichever is greater.
- We strongly recommend keeping local backups of important data.
Termination
You can stop using Terminal Biographer at any time. We can also terminate or suspend your access if:
- You violate these Terms.
- We are required to do so by law.
- We discontinue the Service (with reasonable notice).
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends. Your locally stored data remains yours. Cloud-synced data will be available for export for 30 days after termination.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. When we make significant changes:
- We’ll notify you via email (if you’re on the waitlist or have an account).
- We’ll update the “last updated” date at the top of this page.
- Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in the jurisdiction where Dangerous Media operates. Any disputes will be resolved through good-faith negotiation first, and if necessary, through binding arbitration.
